How to affix a TV to computer, HDTV to PC or laptop

How to affix a TV to computer, HDTV to PC or laptop Video Clips.

Parts used: jasonrj.net I explain the best way to connect your desktop or laptop computer to your HDTV. This will not work with a standard definition TV. I choose the HDMI cable method because it is the absolute best way to do this when concerned with picture quality. I use a DVI to HDMI converter but a video card with a built in HDMI port is even better. Please note that just about any computer is capable of doing this but if the video card is not powerful enough you may see choppy video on the TV as a result. DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY ON EXPENSIVE HDMI CABLES!!!! The cheap cables are EXACTLY as good as the ridiculously expensive ones. This is a proven fact that I find hilarious people try to argue: www.mint.com www.engadget.com gizmodo.com

Review: Acer Aspire One 722

Review: Acer Aspire One 722

Hdmi

The Acer Aspire One 722 can be described as a reliable, economical Netbook with HDMI. It's less expensive as some products, yet it is cheaper than most, which might more than make up for it in the benefit department. If you currently have a powerful laptop and just need a lighter-weight netbook for travelling, or if you are looking for an inexpensive media PC, or if perhaps you're looking for an starting laptop for a child, the Acer Aspire One 722 could easily be the Netbook suitable for you.

Hardware Details

AMD Dual-Core C-50 1.0 GHz processor 2GB DDR3 SDRAM 250 GB 5400RPM hard drive ATI Radeon HD 6250 graphics card w/ 256MB dedicated memory 8" x 11.2" x 1" 3.2 pounds

Keyboard and Touchpad

There is no two ways about this - the keyboard feels filled and flexes uncomfortably. Other, similarly-sized products find a way to offer up far more room, although they're working in a similar form factor. The arrow keys are all half-sized, with "extra" shortcut keys over the left and right keys, which basically just can get in the way when attempting to move around quickly. This, not to mention the fact that the laptop keyboard flexes downwards at the drop of a hat (or the press of a key!) brings about the many more problems while typing than usual.

Then again, the touchpad is impressive in how unremarkable it really is. It's the same texture as the other parts of the body, therefore it doesn't stand out awkwardly. It's matte in texture, so your are capable of sense exactly where your fingers are. The mouse button bar is extremely reactive, and left and right-click are very well defined. You won't end up making numerous problems on this touchpad - the truth is you'll scarcely notice it's there in any respect! You'll only use it exactly as you expect and it will work as intended, that is optimal for virtually any trackpad.

Screen

Similarly, the display suffers from a reduced budget too. Whenever turned up as high as it can go, the screen still seems a little dim, although the backlight is reasonably even - no areas seem much lighter or darker than any others. The viewing angle isn't too large, but if you're watching it as one individual, you will have no difficulties. If you want to share your display with multiple folks, you may as well connect to an external display with your Netbook HDMI port anyhow.

The display is at least big (11.6 inches) and high-resolution (1366 x 768). It's not a bad display by any means, however it certainly isn't a superb one.

Ports and Connectors

Needless to say, you get a Netbook HDMI port on this laptop, located on the left side. You will also get 3 USB ports, all of which are USB 2.0, meaning faster speed, which means less time spent moving files.

Included as well will be a VGA port (useful should you come across an older screen), a high-speed networking connector (excellent if you want to save or move a lot of files), and a webcam with mike. The webcam isn't stellar quality, but certainly a nice option if you wanted to have a very quick meeting.

OS and Software

The Acer Aspire One 722 comes installed with Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit, which is a nice option. They could have supplied only 32-bit, as most versions of this Netbook only have 2 GB of RAM. The 64-bit variation provides you with the choice of upgrading your RAM later, in case you find your usage requires a bit more breathing space.

However, based on the place you get it from, your Aspire One 722 may show up with a lot of bloatware installed, which significantly reduces the initial impressions of a clean, new Netbook. Reasonably, all that's necessary installed on a fresh Netbook with HDMI is the os plus some kind of media player to let you display your high-definition movies. Trialware and software of doubtful value should not be packed in, as it doesn't actually add any value for the Netbook. This is an area where Acer falls down.

What Are HDMI Cables?

What Are HDMI Cables?

Hdmi

First things first, what does HDMI mean? HDMI is an acronym for high definition multimedia interface. With recent advances in technology, high definition multimedia has become increasingly popular; it provides the best audio-visual (AV) output.

HDMI cables link together various digital mediums, such as TV and DVD player. In contrast to previous AV connectors, HDMI cables mean that we need fewer to link various Medias together, but there are other advantages too, here we will explain the basics of HDMI.

High definition is taking off in a big way; most TVs, sound systems, laptops, etc, now come with HDMI ports/sockets, and such ports are fast becoming the standard fixture. The HDMI cable and sockets are now replacing the SCART lead as media connections. HDMI connection allows both visual and audio information to travel along a single lead, thus the reason for fewer wires. SCART uses an analogue signal to transfer information, while HDMI uses a digital signal.

Digital signals are much more advantageous than analogue signals, for various reasons, including, less degradation of information (meaning cleaner images and higher quality sound), flexibility, reliability (signals are less open to corruption and 'noise'), ease of integration with other digital networks, and digital signals are less expensive to produce and communicate. Generally, by using HDMI connections, the whole process of linking together various media players, becomes a lot simpler and easier to achieve, and with fewer potential problems.

High definition multimedia has transformed our viewing pleasure, enabling clearer, crisper visual and audio quality. There is much less likelihood of distorted imagery or sound when using HDMI cables; here are some of the main advantages of HD multimedia interfacing, over the more traditional interfaces:

Audio and visual experience is enhanced, past problems, such as ghosting, have been all but eliminated.

Because fewer wires are needed, the process of connecting various devices has been simplified immensely. This means that fewer mistakes can be made, and are easily rectified when they arise, but also, that the cost of interfacing has been greatly reduced, as there are fewer purchases involved - a single cable, as opposed to multiple cables.

HDMI supports high definition, clearly, but it can also deal with standard signals too, meaning it is not necessary to upgrade all your media devices at once to make use of the HD interfacing system. Moreover, the technology has been created in such a fashion that it will be able to support media types that have yet to be developed.

It is the standard interface system used by the majority of media industry leaders, from systems manufacturers, such as Toshiba, Panasonic, and Sony, but also from the producers of film and media, such as Fox, Disney, and Universal.

www.dslrfilmnoob.com I've been getting a lot of request to see this little monitor up close. I didn't have a chance after putting this together to film this monitor in use. So here you are. I will note that it's hard to properly expose a video monitor, and the color ends up looking a little bit blown out in parts of this video. In its defense, this monitor looks just fine. Are the colors perfect? Probably not, but this monitor does a great job for its size and price. My cellphone is heavier then this monitor which means no real extra weight added to your current setup. In fact you could probably get away with mounting this and a microphone on your camera's hot shoe without any problems. If you still have questions about this monitor just send me a message and I'll see if I can help you out. Tips on Connecting the HDMI Computer Connection to Your Television

Tips on Connecting the HDMI Computer Connection to Your Television

Hdmi

Connecting the computer to the TV screen will be the useful way in displaying the presentations or even videos on the larger screen or easy to use the TV screen as the monitor. When you are using the TV as the monitor, it will be important for you to have as high the screen resolution as possible therefore the small text of the computer desktop and also windows is legible.

If the video card of the computer has the HDMI output, HDMI is the great way to connect it to the HDTV to maximize the picture quality. Here is more information for you.

For the first step, you need to place your computer close enough to your TV therefore your HDMI cable can reach from one to the other.

For the second step, plug one end of the HDMI cable into the HDMI port on the video card of the computer. For the next step, you should plug the other end of the HDMI cable into the open HDMI input port on your TV.

Most of HDTV's have the HDMI input on the side of your TV for simple on demand access. If the TV will not have a port on the front or even side, you will need to plug it into the port on the back. After that, turn on the TV and also the computer.

For the last step, you can use the TV remote control in order to change the video mode to an appropriate HDMI connection. It just like when you will switch from watching TV to using the DVD player or even game console, you will need to switch the input mode of your TV to use the HDMI connection that the computer is plugged in to.

Clarifying the Names - HDMI Switch Vs Splitters Vs Matrix Vs Adapter

Clarifying the Names - HDMI Switch Vs Splitters Vs Matrix Vs Adapter

Hdmi

The first time I wanted to hook up my Xbox 360, HTPC and Blu-Ray player to my old HDTV which had only 1 HDMI port left, I didn't know what device I should be looking for. I know what I want it to do for me, but I don't know how to call it for me to Google it. To be honest, I came up with "HDMI hub", which I borrowed from a network hub which could split network signals for multiple computers. I was also thinking of "HDMI adapter" and "HDMI splitter". Unfortunately, none of them were the popular names.

Such a product is actually commonly called an HDMI switch or switcher. Of course, there is no official name for it, but there are names more commonly used than others by the majority of the users. So knowing the right names help you research them better and find better prices before you decide to buy one. After reading this article, you will get a much clearer picture of the common names of the many HDMI gadgets and what they do.

1. HDMI Switch, Switcher, Selector

They are the names of an HDMI input switch, which receives signals from multiple HD devices, and output to only 1 port on an HDTV, monitor or projector. This is what you need when you want to hook up all your PS3, BluRay, HD PVR, etc all to a single port on your HDTV because your HDTV has only 1 port left.

A 3x1 or 3 port HDMI switch receives 3 HD signals and outputs to 1 port. So on and so forth. Although they are also sometimes labeled as "HDMI splitters", they should not be, because they don't split signals but rather they converges signals into 1 port.

2. HDMI Splitter or Amplifier

In contrast, they are the names of an HDMI output switch, which receives signals from just 1 HD device and outputs to 2 or more HDTVs or monitors. This is what you need when you want to output the same HD signal to 2 or more HDTVs. In a sense, they split or amplify the signals into multiple streams, hence the names.

A 1x2 or 2 port HDMI splitter receives HD signal from 1 device and outputs to 2 screens.

3. HDMI Matrix or Distributor

They are combining the functions of input and output switches, they receive multiple HD signals and output to multiple displays. They are rarely used by average consumers but more commonly used by electronics stores or exhibition hosts who need to display many screens simultaneously with HD signals coming from several devices.

A 4x2 HDMI matrix receives HD signals from 4 input sources and output to 2 HDTVs.

4. HDMI Adapter or Converter

These are very general names, which, however, usually mean a much simpler device that connects HDMI port to another video port such as a VGA or DVI port. An HDMI to DVI adapter means it receives HD signals from an HDMI port and outputs to a DVI port.

Summary

So how can you find the right product you need? Try these simple recommended keywords when you are doing your research:

HDMI Switch: Connecting multiple HD devices to 1 HDMI port on your HDTV.
HDMI Splitter: Connecting 1 HD device to 2 or more HDTVs.
HDMI Matrix: Connecting multiple HD devices to multiple HDTVs.
HDMI Adapter: Connecting HDMI port to another type of video port.

Now that you know the magic words, it will be much easier for you to find your desired HDMI gadgets, enjoy.

If Your HDMI Cables Are Too Short, What Can You Do?

If Your HDMI Cables Are Too Short, What Can You Do?

Hdmi

A pretty common problem that comes with the advent of HDMI (High Definition Multimedia Interface) becoming the new industry standard for transmitting TV signals is how to select the correct length HDMI lead. In the old days when everything was carried by RG6 Coaxial cable, it was possible to run the signal over pretty long runs and then simply cut the cable to length and fit a coax connector and simply connect it to the TV. Although RG6 cable is still used to connect the satellite dish to say for example a Freesat+ receiver, the output from the box to the TV will now invariably be a HDMI cable.

Another complicating factor is the popularity of hanging Flat screen TVs on a bare walls or over a fireplace. Obviously nobody wants HDMI cables tacked along the wall, so invariably the cables are being buried in the wall and normally run from the TV to a nearby built in unit which will house the satellite receiver. What makes selecting the correct length of lead is that it is not possible to simply extend or shorten the lead. In general there is a good selection of HDMI cables ranging from 1m all the way up to 20m, with the upper limit being due to the level of signal loss that occurs in cables that are no longer than 20m.

No matter how well you plan it there is always a possibility the the cable will too short. For example the HDMI input on your new HD TV is in a different location than you expected, or you decide to mount the TV in a slightly different location. There are 2 options when it comes to extending a HDMI cable.

The first and simplest option is to simply use a HDMI coupler which comes with sockets on both ends into which to insert HDMI cables. This option is both inexpensive, compact and does not need a power supply. It is however only suitable to use when the combined length of the 2 cables is less than 20m.

The other option is to use a HDMI repeater, which is a powered unit that both joins 2 HDMI cables together and also boosts the signal. Normally this unit is used when combining HDMI leads where the combined length is over 20m. The need to have the unit plugged in and its cost are certainly issues, but this is an essential unit on very long runs.

A final note on HDMI cables is that in general over short runs, the difference in the signal loss between a low cost and an expensive HDMI is pretty minimal. Where spending the extra money is worth while is on long runs of cable. Most of the cost lost HDMI supplier don't do budget level cables that are longer than 5 or 10m.

The Best HDMI Monitors

The Best HDMI Monitors

Hdmi

There are many reviews that you can read online in order to find the best HDMI monitor for yourself. You can view videos on product reviews where customers tell their views on the product. This way you will be able to make the best decision about which HDMI monitor to purchase in the end. You can view customer ratings and compare prices and you will find lists of the best HDMI monitors online. Just remember that the best monitor will have the maximum resolution of 1080p and they have the maximum output.

The maximum resolution is 1600x1050 and the PS3 outputs 1900x1080. You would need to spend a little more in order to receive this much of output but it will be well worth your money. You need to make sure that the perfect monitor is the perfect size for you so you can maximize your game playing or movie viewing experiences. You do not want to purchase a monitor that is small in size which will not be worth your money.

When you are shopping for the monitors then you will find that many that have all the features are inexpensive. This is because they have become the popular choice for many families. You need to see how many HDMI ports are there in the monitor as the most ports you have the more devices you will be able to connect. Check the picture resolution of the monitor which is essential in order to enhance the image resolution of the monitor. Check for the refresh rates on the monitor.

The higher the refresh rate is the better and smoother the picture quality will be on the monitor. Find out the number of colors that can be produced by the monitor as higher the number is on the left then more will be the colors produced by the monitor. Check if the monitor has various cable connections or not. You might want to connect it to your older computers or other devices. The two ports that should be present are the VGA and the DVI. These can also be used for projectors.

Many televisions also have DVI ports these days. In the end, make sure you have done your thorough research online in order to find the best HDMI monitors for yourself. Ask your friends, family and neighbors for referrals and you will surely purchase the best monitor.

Grandtec USB to HDMI Adapter

Grandtec USB to HDMI Adapter

Hdmi

You've probably seen a coworker or colleague using multiple LCD monitors at their computer workstation. Research at the University of Utah indicates that the use of multiple monitors can significantly improve worker productivity. It has been possible to integrate multiple monitors if the computer had DVI or HDMI outputs, but computers equipped with this functionality are still rare. Currently less than 2 percent of workstations are equipped with more than a single monitor. There is a need for a simpler solution.

A new USB-HDMI adapter module has been introduced in recently that might help. The Grandtec Electronic "Grand HD Cinema" (GHD-2000) adapts a USB port for use as an output for up to 6 monitors (4 for Mac). This is also an easy way to implement an HDTV adapter for a laptop computer. This module is about the size of an AC adapter power supply for a laptop computer. What makes this product different than its competitors is the integrated circuit chips and software drivers, the "Display Link" technology.

Display Link Technology

The critical chips used are made by a company called DisplayLink (formerly Newnham Technology, website: displaylink.com). The company is headquartered in Palo Alto, California, with research and product development in Cambridge, England. DisplayLink is a fabless operation, so the manufacturing of the integrated circuits is probably performed in Taiwan.

DisplayLink technology supports 32-bit color at all resolutions. Whenever native resolution can be detected, DisplayLink will display the native resolution of the screen automatically. The video output format is capable of high definition (720p), and audio functions for a single channel are also integrated. DisplayLink also provides much of the software for automatically configuring the video adapter and the USB port.

DisplayLink compresses the video signal for transport over the USB link to improve bandwidth. Video signals, especially HDTV signals, when uncompressed, require enormous bandwidth. If the original signal source is encoded video (see MPEG) then the computer must first decode the signal. Then the DisplayLink software driver must compress the signal using the proprietary DisplayLink video compression codec. This is basically transcoding, which is one of the reasons that the computer requirements are significant. The compressed signal is then sent over the USB link to the adapter.

Once the signal is past the USB link, the converter uncompresses the signal for broadcast over the HDMI link. HDMI is capable of communicating uncompressed HDTV signals.

There is some misleading information on-line that claims that this product is HDCP capable, which implies that the system is amongst other things, BluRay DVD compatible. Currently DisplayLink technology is not HDCP compliant, since DisplayLink's compression codec cannot manipulate encrypted packages.

Fast moving images may stress the capability of this technology because of the throughput limitations of USB 2.0.

Computer Requirements

The minimum computer requirements for this application are an XP or Vista operating system with a Pentium 4 CPU or equivalent at 2.4GHz. Minimum RAM memory requirement is 512 MB. The converter module relies on the computer CPU to perform the video encoding. The product is Plug and play with included software, and should install quickly.

Power for the converter is supplied from the USB port, so an AC power supply is not required.

Video Wall

It is possible to implement a "video wall" with up to 6 displays, but only a single audio channel can be used. Each screen's picture can be independently rotated in increments of 90 degrees.

The system supports extended desktop video (a single image split over multiple monitors) or mirror imaging (the same image displayed on multiple monitors). A separate USB-HDMI adapter module will be required for each monitor in extended desktop mode.

With multiple USB-HDMI adapters, each monitor can show separate programming. The limitation will be the computers ability to encode each channel because of the process is computation intensive.

Many people now use their computers to watch television and movies. There is a need to be able to easily view the computer's signal on a larger HDTV. The Grandtec Electronic Grand HD Cinema is well suited for this purpose. The Grand HD Cinema currently sells on-line for 0-0.

Surround Sound Systems - How to Hook Up Surround Sound For Your Home Theater System

Surround Sound Systems - How to Hook Up Surround Sound For Your Home Theater System

Hdmi

If you really want to feel the excitement of watching a movie in your own home, then you have to get a surround sound system.

You may already have the big screen in your room, but if you are not able to hear the soundtrack at its best, then you're missing out on half the fun!

However, many people feel that installing a surround sound system is too difficult - and that it's too complicated for them to hook up.

Well, it's not that difficult - follow these points to understand what you need to get your own surround sound set up.

1. Decide on the surround sound configuration you want.

Most modern DVDs come with a 5.1 surround soundtrack - so a 5.1 speaker setup is the most common speaker system that people have. This system has six speakers - a center speaker, front left and right, surround left and right and a subwoofer (for the bass). However, other common configrations are 7.1 and 7.2 surround sound speaker systems.

2. Buy an AV receiver/amplifier and speaker package - or a home theater in-a-box system.

The AV receiver is the amplifier for your speakers - and the processor for the 5.1 surround soundtrack. You will have to buy a separate 5.1 speaker package to connect to the surround sound receiver - and probably the speaker cable too. The main advantage of an AV receiver is that you can connect many different external devices to it - such as DVD players, Blu-ray players, cable TV boxes, DVD recorders etc.

A home theater in-a-box system (HTiB) will come with the amplifier, speakers and all the cabling in one package - and will often have a built-in DVD/Blu-ray player too. However, there is often limited scope for connecting other devices to this type of system.

3. Connect the system together.
Connect the speakers to the speaker outputs on the AV receiver using the speaker cables. Make sure you connect the center speaker to the center speaker output, the front left speaker to the front left speaker output etc. Connect the HDMI output of your DVD player to the first HDMI input on the receiver. This will send the DVD picture and the sound to the receiver. Connect the HDMI output port on the AV receiver to the first (maybe only) HDMI connection on your TV. The AV receiver will use this to send the picture to the TV screen. Run the automatic speaker setup for the AV receiver (most have this). This will send a test signal around your speakers and set a good balance.
4. Play the movie!

5. How it all works

When you press play on the DVD player, the video and audio signals are sent to the AV receiver down the HDMI cable - make sure you select the correct input on the AV receiver and it will receive the signal. The AV receiver then sends the picture to the TV - make sure you select the correct input on the TV (the TV may switch to the correct input when it gets the signal). The AV receiver also sends the audio to the speakers. It should automatically receive the 5.1 mix on the DVD and send it out to the speaker system in surround sound.
Summary

So there we have it, a quick checklist of what you need to buy to get a surround sound system in you home - and how you connect everything together. If you need more detailed information on this process, then follow the links below.

Have fun!

HDMI Connections Over Long Distance

HDMI Connections Over Long Distance

Hdmi

Background:

Upgrades from CRT based to HDTV have been rapid and as HDTV technology continues to mature, consumers will begin to update the 2nd and even 3rd TV sets to HDTV. HDMI is the de-facto standard in connecting HD source to the HDTV. In some special applications, especially with projectors, the cable lengths can exceed 50ft and require specialized connectivity solutions. We will present some solutions for distributing HDMI over long distances.

Possible Solutions :

HDMI Extenders:

In applications where HDMI cabling is readily available and easily installed, a convenient solution for extending HDMI reach is to install a HDMI Extender at the end of the HDMI cable. Most HDMI extenders work by adaptive equalization and compensates for frequency varying signal attenuations, and timing skew. For most applications where connection lengths are between 35-75ft, using HDMI Extender is recommended.

HDMI over Ethernet:

It is possible to distribute HDMI over a pair of standard Ethernet cables by using HDMI to Ethernet converters. The HDMI Ethernet converter enables transmission of 1080P HD HDMI digital video and audio over a pair of standard Ethernet CAT5/6 cables.

Using HDMI over Ethernet Transceiver allows installers to use standard CAT 5/ 6 cables for ease of installation.

Advantages of using HDMI over Ethernet:

-Ethernet cables and connectors are easily field terminated thus allowing installers to easily install the proper length cable needed for ultimate flexibility and eliminate logistics problems of having custom length HDMI cables. No need top pre-measure and customer order cables.

-Allows transmission of 300ft (1080i) and 150ft (1080p) over Ethernet cables. CAT 6 cable is recommended for 1080P and best performance.

Conclusion:

As the HDTV market continues to mature, consumers will need to be educated on the HDTV video connections available. We have presented some possible solutions for distributing HDMI over long cable runs, so the consumer can make intelligent choices in selecting the HDTV video connections.

Connecting Your Plasma 1080p HDTV to Your PC

Connecting Your Plasma 1080p HDTV to Your PC

Hdmi

Connecting your PC to your plasma 1080p HDTV is a relatively simple task. The first thing you need to do though is make sure that your PC and your HDTV have all the right connections to interface with each other. If they do not have matching connectors, (such as an HDMI port on both the TV and the PC) don't worry you can still hook them up with converters/adapters.

The best and most common method of connecting your plasma 1080p HDTV is to do so with a HDMI cable. This is the preferred method because HDMI can carry both digital video and up to 8 channels of digital audio between two sources. If you have your HDTV already hooked up to home theater audio system this is especially effective. There are other methods to connect a PC to a HDTV. These include S-Video, component video, and a DVI-HDMI converter or cable. It should be noted that DVI cannot carry audio between two sources so you will need to find another way to get your audio output if using one.

After you have found the HDMI connectors on the back of the display and on your PC, connect the cable to both inputs of their respective devices. Power both of the systems on and check to see if the image is output to the screen of the plasma HDTV. Sometimes this is not done automatically

so you may need to check your laptop manual or online help pages to configure it. Often there is a F-Key which has a external display function attached to it. The icon will look like a pair of vertical lines with a circle or other rounded shape between the two.

If the screen does not immediately appear you may have to adjust your resolution settings in your laptop. On windows based PC's this is often done by right clicking the desktop and selecting the properties option. Then select the settings tab and adjust the screen resolution until it begins to appear on the screen.

Your PC and video card might not support the necessary resolutions to output to your HDTV initially. If they do not an option is available called powerstrip. Powerstrip is a utility that runs around . This software will allow you to set up custom resolutions on your PC so that it can be output correctly to your HDTV. This is recommended last because sometimes there is really no need for it. Install it on your PC and configure it to your display's resolution.
